A still April morning in Wasdale Valley - The Lake District
Hello and welcome,
As April settled into a slower rhythm after the bustle of Easter, I found myself seeking new sources of inspiration for upcoming artworks. This month, not only was I inspired by the mountains and lakes I know so well, but even from a quiet moment in front of an aquarium tank - the delicate textures of coral, the flickering movement of marine life, the unexpected textures. It’s always a joy to be reminded that the natural world offers endless beauty, whether beneath water or across the fells.
The Lake District, true to itself, has been shifting moods daily - silver skies one moment, then golden light spilling across the fells the next (with some glorious sunshine!). I’m learning again and again to embrace its ever-changing mood, and how this can weave itself into my work.
A Visit to Wasdale Valley
Recently, I spent some time beside the still waters of Wastwater in the Wasdale Valley - enjoying deep calmness under brooding skies. I was there gathering inspiration and reference for a commissioned piece which will be completed in May.
Whenever a new artwork is commissioned, I offer clients the chance to choose a location that’s meaningful to them - a place they feel connected to. That initial visit becomes a grounding moment: walking the paths, noticing the way the light lands on the peaks, breathing in the air - it all becomes part of the painting’s story. And it’s always a real joy for me to begin a piece in this way… immersed in nature.
Blushing Terrain
120cm x 100cm | Available
This artwork carries with it the warm earthy tones of the fellside - quiet browns, gentle blush pinks, touches of deep red, all woven softly amongst grounding greens and neutrals. It’s a painting that holds stillness, but also the memory of movement.
If you'd like to see more detailed imagery of Blushing Terrain, do let me know - I’d be happy to share more.
Clouded Routes
100cm x 100cm | Available
Subtle aqua tones flow through this artwork, layered with soft moss-like greens and whispering silvery pigments. When the light catches it just right, there’s a gentle shimmer - a sense of weather rolling through high ground, or mist lifting above water.
