In Praise of Unusual Sizes - How Art Transforms Any Space, July 2025

White walls, wallpaper, dark paint, brick…How Art transforms any space.

I’ve been playing around with placing my artworks in very different rooms lately - and I’m reminded how much a piece can hold its own. Some just sing against a dark backdrop, others glow on a chalky wall.

It’s not always about a big centrepiece for a perfect match...

Sometimes a small piece tucked between two windows changes the whole rhythm of a room.

Sometimes a narrow work in an expansive room draws the eye more than a large artwork ever could.

The shape, the scale, the placement - these small decisions create quiet moments of balance and tension.

I’ve been exploring different ways my paintings might live in a space, experimenting with size and format, and how each could shape the mood of a room.

Here’s how some of my work might live in different kinds of spaces: paintings in tall, small, wide, and unexpected formats - each opening up its own possibility.

If something here sparks an idea, or if you’re curious about what might work in your own space, I’m always happy to chat.

Sometimes it’s an unusual size piece in an unlikely spot which is the winner.

Wishing you gentle start to August,

Charlotte
