October: A Change in the Air
Well hello October, where did you creep up from?
There’s definitely a change in the air here in Cumbria. The temperature has just started to shift, slippers have suddenly become essential, and the blankets are back out - with no lap left bare.
So, what did the last month look like around here?
Two new artworks, two new homes
Two paintings were completed this month, and both have already found their people. It still surprises me when a new piece seems to find its home almost immediately - especially after all the weeks of making and wondering that come before it.
The first was a bespoke commission, months in the making, from those first conversations through to the final layers of paint.
Introducing Tarnlit Solitude.
This one now lives here in Cumbria, in the most beautiful home. I was lucky enough to deliver it in person, which is one of my favourite parts of what I do. There’s something so lovely about finally meeting the people behind a painting after getting to know them through the process.
And honestly, I seem to have the loveliest clients. I really am very lucky.
The second was Restless Radiance .
This one was spotted from almost the other end of the country before being carefully wrapped up and sent on its way to its forever home.
Its new owner has a meaningful connection to the Lake District, which made this sale feel especially special. Another lovely connection, another piece of the Lakes making its way a little further afield.
A little gallery changeover
This month also marks the end of my exhibition with Arteria Gallery in Lancaster.
It has been sentimental having my work back in the town where I studied my Fine Art degree. A small full-circle moment, really.
There have also been a few changes elsewhere, with new pieces making their way to some of my lovely gallery spaces.
After Aqua Rise and Settled Gold found their new home together this month, there is now a little room for some new work at Pole Star Gallery in Keswick.
And now on display at Nest Cumbria at the Rheged Centre is Borrowed Light .
You can find the full details here, or simply reply to this email if you'd like to know a little more.
Something rather large is taking shape...
Meanwhile, the studio is quite literally FULL of a new creation.
A little spoiler - you’re hearing it here first - but this one is big.
Very big.
I’ve been completely absorbed in working on it, and I think I’m only a couple of weeks away from finishing and finally being able to share it properly.
If you remember, this one began life as an artwork I decided to start afresh from a previous piece. This is me for scale, and this is before its full makeover...
I’m planning to share little glimpses of the process and some day-to-day studio vlogs over on social media as it takes shape, so keep an eye out for those soon.
Beyond the studio
There was also a little escape from the mountains this month, as I swapped the Lakes for the beaches of Northumberland and spent some time there with family.
It was my first visit, and I now completely understand the hype.
Beautiful doesn't quite cover it. And photos don’t do it justice either!
Wide skies, vast beaches and plenty of fresh sea air (and steps!) before coming home to the fells again.
And now, into October...
Back in the studio, it’s time to carry on with a few commissions with December deadlines. (I didn't say the festive C word… don't come for me.)
If you do have something little and special in mind to gift for someone you love, there is still a small amount of space for commissions before the end of the year. I welcome a chat anytime to see what might work.
For now, I'm looking forward to settling into this cooler part of the year - and seeing where the next few weeks of paint, weather and wandering take me.
Wishing you a lovely October. 🍂
Best wishes, and thank you as always for following along on my journey,
Charlotte
